Contractors, Individuals reminded to sign up now for the Brunswick County Permit Portal to schedule their future inspections
Need an inspection for a permit from Brunswick County? It only takes 10 minutes or less through the County’s new online permit portal.
Brunswick County Code Administration will transition to using the Brunswick County Permit Portal as its primary method to schedule in-person and virtual inspections starting this Monday, Feb. 15. This includes any inspection necessary for a building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical/HVAC, and fire permit.
All contractors or individuals who need to schedule an inspection for a building permit must create a free account to submit future inspection requests to Code Administration. Create your account and schedule an inspection through the Permit Portal at https://bcpp.brunswickcountync.gov/portal/
Several contractors already started using the online portal when the County initially launched it this December. Over the past few months, Code Administration staff have communicated with and helped educate contractors through a series of virtual workshops and video tutorials on how to use the portal. These tutorials are available on Brunswick County’s YouTube channel.
The concept behind the online permit portal began in 2018 with the idea to have a single point of digital contact with the public through a secure, personal account for each user. By that time, Code Administration was processing about 20,000 building permits a year—whereas it was processing around only 13,000 two years earlier.
“With the tremendous growth we are seeing in the county, it became increasingly clear that we needed to provide both staff and the building community with a more innovative and efficient manner to schedule the necessary inspections for these permits,” Code Administration Director Michael Slate said. “We’ve already heard a lot of positive feedback from users about how easy it is to use the portal and watch their project’s progress.”
For more than a year, the County’s Code Administration and Management Information Systems team members have worked together to develop and test the new online permit portal.
Previously, all appointments were scheduled through an online request form, over the phone, or by email. The online portal allows for a streamlined approach to improve communications with users and to allow them to access the portal at any time.
Anyone who has questions about the portal or who does not have access to the internet or a computer to schedule an inspection can call the customer help line at 910.253.2037.
While the online permit portal currently allows users to monitor projects and permits and schedule inspections, Slate said that additional phases are on the horizon to add new features and functionality to the portal, such as allowing users to apply for permits, send and receive communication, pay invoices, administer rights, and other beneficial account features.
