Brunswick County Board of Commissioners adopt FY 2024 Budget During June 19 Meeting

The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners met for a regular meeting at 6 p.m. this Monday, June 19.

The Board adopted the Fiscal Year 2024 recommended budget during this meeting, which will go into effect July 1, 2023, and run through June 30, 2024.

The FY24 budget uses a property tax (ad valorem) rate of 34.20 cents. The Board moved to reduce the proposed property tax (ad valorem) rate of 34.25 cents by another 0.05 cents during the meeting, adopting the final rate of 34.20 cents. This rate is also lower than the County’s current FY23 property tax rate of 48.50 cents and only 0.50 cents above the 2023 calculated revenue neutral rate of 33.70 cents.

It is estimated that around half of Brunswick County property owners will still see a decrease in their county property tax bill under the adopted rate of 34.20 cents. This rate is also anticipated to be one of the lowest among all county property tax rates in the state. Brunswick County’s FY23 rate of 48.50 cents was already one of the lower rates, ranking 11th out of 100 counties.
